Functional Fitness Method

Functional Training is a classification of exercise which involves training the body for the activities performed in daily life. The goal of functional training is to emphasize the transfer of fitness gained from exercise into improved performance in daily activities. The body knows movements rather than muscles. Traditionally, we use a machine-based strength training which focuses on isolating muscles to increase the size of a given target muscle but does not demand the coordination required to build optimum strength and performance.

~"Create-Accelerate, Slow Down-Decelerate and Stabilize-Hold Steady Force." Use compound (multi-joint) movements in various directions and at a multitude of different speeds.

This approach of functional training attempts to adapt or develop exercises which allow individuals to perform the activities of daily life more easily and without injuries.

Flexibility:

The absolute range of movement in a joint or series of joints, and the length of muscles that cross the joints. Benefits may arise from the use of functional training that emphasizes the body's natural ability to move in six degrees of freedom.

Strength:
The ability of a person to exert force on physical objects using muscles. Functional training may lead to better muscular balance and joint stability, possibly decreasing the number of injuries sustained in an individual's performance in a sport.

Power:
The ability to exert maximum muscular contraction instantly in an explosive burst of movements.

Cardiovascular Endurance:

The ability of the heart, lungs and blood vessels to deliver oxygen to working muscles and tissues, as well as the ability of those muscles and tissues to utilize that oxygen

Studies show substantial gains and benefits in functional training including increase strength, improved balance, decrease in joint pain and cardiovascular health over conventional training methods.
